Finding a registered electrician
If you require an electrician to undertake electrical work in your domestic property, you would be best advised to use a registered electrician and obtain a number of quotes for comparison. If you complete the form above, you will receive estimates from electricians in your area and they will be provided with your contact details. You can then discuss your requirements with them in more detail and relatively quickly receive accurate quotations for your consideration.
The statutory requirements for electrical work are different in England and Wales to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Here is the information you need to ensure your electrician is approved by a recognised organisation.
In England and Wales, a registered electrician who can undertake electrical work on your home in compliance with Part P of the Building Regulations will be registered with at least one of the following organisations:

SELECT (Scotland)

In Scotland the registration of electricians to carry out electrical work in compliance with the Building Standards system is through the following organisations:

In Northern Ireland there are currently no statutory requirements for domestic electrical work, however the following organisations do register installers that should be competent to carry out this type of work:

Part P of the Building Regulations (relevant in England and Wales only)
Part P ensures all electrical work undertaken within a dwelling (a home or garden) is carried out safely by a qualified electrician and that the Local Authority Building Control department is notified of this work. If you move house a Certificate of Compliance is required by the buyer’s solicitor to show that any electrical work carried out at the house is safe. To help homeowners meet their obligations under the Building Regulations, approved electricians can certify their own work and the organisations above will issue the certificate to you (for you to keep safe for when you sell the property) and notify the Local Authority in keeping with the requirements of Part P.
If you do not require general electrical work but actually require an Electrical Report.
