Finding a registered electrician

If you require an electrician to undertake electrical work in your domestic property, you would be best advised to use a registered electrician and obtain a number of quotes for comparison.  If you complete the form above, you will receive estimates from electricians in your area and they will be provided with your contact details.  You can then discuss your requirements with them in more detail and relatively quickly receive accurate quotations for your consideration.

The statutory requirements for electrical work are different in England and Wales to Scotland and Northern Ireland.  Here is the information you need to ensure your electrician is approved by a recognised organisation.

In England and Wales, a registered electrician who can undertake electrical work on your home in compliance with Part P of the Building Regulations will be registered with at least one of the following organisations:

BRE Certification Ltd
British Standards Institution
ELECSA Ltd
NAPIT Registration Ltd
NICEIC Group Ltd
SELECT (Scotland)
STROMA

In Scotland the registration of electricians to carry out electrical work in compliance with the Building Standards system is through the following organisations:

NICEIC
SELECT

Information on the Building Standards System in Scotland can be found at www.sbsc.uk.net

In Northern Ireland there are currently no statutory requirements for domestic electrical work, however the following organisations do register installers that should be competent to carry out this type of work:

NICEIC
ECA
NAPIT Registration Ltd

Part P of the Building Regulations (relevant in England and Wales only)

Part P ensures all electrical work undertaken within a dwelling (a home or garden) is carried out safely by a qualified electrician and that the Local Authority Building Control department is notified of this work.  If you move house a Certificate of Compliance is required by the buyer’s solicitor to show that any electrical work carried out at the house is safe.  To help homeowners meet their obligations under the Building Regulations, approved electricians can certify their own work and the organisations above will issue the certificate to you (for you to keep safe for when you sell the property) and notify the Local Authority in keeping with the requirements of Part P.

If you do not require general electrical work but actually require an Electrical Report.

Feedback

Please see below for some genuine feedback from Local Architects Direct customers

Promptness of response : Mr. Brumhead responded within minutes of my requests, we communicated through text messages and phone conversations. He made himself available to my questions each time I raised one. Quality of service : Mr. Brumhead was a very approachable, polite and friendly electrician. He provided me with reassurance and advice wherever necessary. His electrical report on the property I was purchasing was very thorough and one of the deciding factors in myself in my partner purchasing our first home together. Value for money : The cost to us performing an electrical survey of the property we were buying was minimal. Although the cheapest solution is not always the best one, we felt that the level of service and the detail in which Mr. Brumhead went into during the survey was more than adequate and excellent value for money. Professionalism : Mr. Brumhead was a very approachable, polite and friendly electrician. His electrical survey report was delivered promptly after he had conducted it, meaning that the survey for us, was rapid and without any complications.

Mr Stamp did a totally professional job, the installation was done rapidly and in A very tidy way, also be explained the way to operate the consumer unit correctly , also advised me to trip test the switches twice a year. I don't think cost wasn' particularly cheep but I do have the peace of mind in knowing that it was done well and I watched him check and he explained to me what the checks were for and how they certified them. I have his number and wouldn't hesitate to use his services again, as and when required.
