The term “noisy neighbours” is now part and parcel of our everyday language. And, with a mine of information readily available from digital multimedia technologies in an instant, we, as a nation, are well aware of the many issues regarding health. So, the adverse effects of noise pollution, from the low hum of a corner shop’s extractor fan to a new runway at an airport terminal, should be at the forefront of most of our collective consciences. Highlighted below are some situations and examples where testing for satisfactory noise levels may be required:
Planned developments
When there is a new build and planning permission is sought from the relevant local authority.
When an existing site or premises applies for a change of use.
When partitions applicable to separate living spaces, such as walls or ceilings, undergo a conversion.
This may happen when a new bar opens up in town and applies for a late licence, as considerations will have to be made concerning noise levels for any residential housing close-by.
Complaints
