Air Quality Testing
“Breathe, breathe in the air, Don’t be afraid to care” sang Pink Floyd famously. But how do we know that what we inhale at home or in work isn’t doing any damage? Good quality air is essential for us to stay fit and healthy. The earth’s atmosphere is made up of roughly 80% nitrogen and 20% oxygen. Carbon dioxide makes up a tiny amount, less than 0.1%. Air also contains argon, water vapour and small proportions of other gases including helium, methane and hydrogen. In humans and animals, oxygen is inhaled and carbon dioxide is exhaled through respiration, while plants use carbon dioxide and release oxygen through photosynthesis. But, other substances can also be present in what we breathe, some of which are toxic and potentially harmful.
Building materials and everyday cleaning products can potentially contain unsafe material, such as PVC, solvents and synthetic fibres and, while ventilation can help keep levels at a minimum, in some cases this might not be enough. Air quality testing is a way of analysing in detail whether there are any issues that need addressing in your home, office, or commercially-run establishment. As well as detecting concerns such as low oxygen, high carbon dioxide or damaging levels of carbon monoxide, the assessment will pick up dangerous levels of cancer causing Volatile Organic Compounds, moulds, spores and damp, while measuring amounts of radon, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and aldehydes. Any problem, such as a faulty appliance, can be identified at source.
Whether you are a householder or a parent, a professional or an employer, a report will help you make an informed decision about any air contamination present and will help ensure you are meeting the required legislation.
Please fill in the above details to obtain information on a list of experts who can provide surveys in your local area.
