Tree Surgery
Trees can be valuable assets, which not only add to the aesthetics of our surroundings, but also provide many other advantages ranging from health and environmental benefits to adding financial value to properties. However, like most assets they will require maintenance and regular management.
When engaging contractors to undertake tree work, care must be taken in checking they have the necessary skill and competence. Tree work is hazardous and to be done safely it requires properly trained and experienced people.
Tree surgeons can fell, cut back or dismantle trees of all sizes. Sometimes this is necessary if the tree is diseased, dead or rotting. Occasionally they may pose a risk to buildings, people or utilities if they have been damaged by adverse weather conditions. If your tree has dead, decaying or diseased wood a tree surgeon may be able to remove the affected branches. A tree surgeon can remove the branches from the tree’s crown to create more light and space under and around the trunk of the tree.
Trees that have to be restricted in size due to where they are growing can have their crown reduced by a tree surgeon and at the same time re shaped so the tree grows evenly. It is equally important that advice given in respect to work required on trees is correct and from reliable professionals.
Some trees have Tree Protection Orders (TPOs) placed on them by local authorities, to ensure the responsible management of trees in their area. Permission to carry out any works on these must be sought from the local authority before work commences. Trees in Conservation areas should be treated in the same manner as those with TPOs
A Tree Protection Order makes it a criminal offence to cause or permit someone to cut down, top, lop, uproot a tree protected by that order, without the local authority’s permission. Anyone found guilty of such an offence is liable to prosecution, and an unlimited fine.
