Company Information
Msoma Architects is a London-based architecture and research practice led by Bushra Mohamed. Our work aims to reflect cultural identities architecturally and spatially. We do this by foregrounding diasporic communities and synthesising themes of decolonisation and decarbonisation within our built environment. Our sustainability agenda considers social as well as carbon impact to ensure a more equitable future for our cities.
Our current projects are focused on housing, exhibitions, public space and cultural buildings. Teaching and research are an integral part of the practice, in addition to teaching at UK universities, the practice is currently carrying out a research project on African housing typologies, a forthcoming publication is due in June 2024.
Values
Msoma, Swahili for Reader, describes a person who studies, searches, and learns. We believe this is the role of the architect; a person who studies and learns from contexts, peoples, materials, climates, and histories to create future expressions of space.
The practice is interested in themes of home, belonging and migration. Central to this is a need to address the gaps in the archives, histories and geographies of places. We believe in centring liminal identities we can create a more equitable future for our cities.Contact Details
